BUILDER'S DAY: MOSCOW'S MOST ICONIC PROJECTS

9 August 2020

Every year on the second Sunday in August, Russia celebrates Builder's Day. The profession, which has long been highly respected and honoured, is today, in an era of global urbanisation, in great demand. Tremendous human resources are needed to meet the rapidly growing needs of the modern megalopolis. The innovative solutions of architects and planners pose new challenges for the construction industry.

Among the striking examples of the latest architectural trends introduced in the capital today are the projects of Russia's largest commercial real estate holding - the Kievskaya Ploshchad Group of companies. All of them are innovative in terms of urban infrastructure, play an important role in shaping the modern image of the capital, and are of high social importance for Moscow.

In 2023, the capital will complete the reconstruction of the Olimpiyskiy sports, shopping and entertainment centre, which will be transformed into a modern multifunctional cluster for sports, entertainment and family recreation. The new Olimpiyskiy will become the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex with an ice arena, halls for various sports, a swimming pool for hosting international competitions and a diving centre with a depth of more than 30 metres. There will be a 12-seat cinema cluster, a modular concert hall with the latest acoustic system and innovative sound support for music, sports and circus performances. Olimpiyskiy’s roof will contain a promenade area - Olimpiyskiy Boulevard - around which 38 panoramic restaurants will make a full circle in one hour.

Today, the construction of a multifunctional hotel complex with apartments on Varvarka is in full swing in the capital. The restoration of the former tenement houses of the insurance company Yakor and merchant of the first guild Zelik Persits as part of the project based on archive drawings was a personal initiative by the investor. The hotel complex, located in the heart of the capital, within walking distance of the Kremlin, will link the history of the old Zaryadye district with the modern city. The new hotel will be imbued with the spirit of Russian art and literature. The history of the imperial dynasty, the greatness of Russian cathedral architecture and classical images of Russian ballet will become the country's hallmark, a kind of cultural guide to Russia. The hotel complex will house an exhibition of numerous artefacts found during the reconstruction of the facility.

Global projects, whose importance for the city’s transport infrastructure is difficult to overestimate, are the capital’s largest transport and transfer hubs. This year, the Kievskaya Ploshchad Group of Companies completed a large-scale reconstruction of the Schelkovskiy (Central) bus station. The commissioning of an international passenger transit terminal with modern infrastructure totalling more than 150,000m2 is planned for autumn 2020. The multifunctional complex is part of the Schelkovskiy transport and transfer hub and brings together under one roof an international bus station and the eponymous shopping and entertainment centre, which will feature the world's most famous brands.

And on Varshavskoye Shosse, construction of the Nagatinskaya transport interchange hub has begun. The complex, built on the "dry feet" principle, will provide passenger transfers from trains to buses and subways using comfortable dry passages and will significantly reduce travel time. The transport terminal with a total area of 230,000m2 will combine three modes of transport under one roof: a railway platform, the Nagatinskaya metro station on the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya line and several routes for city vehicles. By 2023, more than 300,000 people will transfer through the Nagatinskaya transport hub per day. It is expected that the transport

interchange complex will improve the transport situation on Varshavskoe Shosse when travelling out from the city centre.

The Kievskaya Ploshchad Group of Companies adds its own congratulations. We wish all representatives of the construction industry good health, endless energy, inspiration, great projects and professional growth!
