Newsletter: World Environment Day

5 June 2020

5 June marks World Environment Day, the professional festival of environmentalists, and the Kievskaya Ploshchad Group of Companies sends its congratulations to all professionals engaged in this field, whose development directly impacts the health and quality of people’s lives. For Kievskaya Ploshchad, attention to ecology and caring for nature are the most important elements of doing business in the modern world. Attracting attention to the issue of ecology is an expression of the concern and social responsibility of the company.

For example, the Radisson Collection Hotel, Moscow (Hotel Ukraina) practises separate rubbish collection, sorting 6 different categories of solid waste, and encourages environmental activity among its employees. The hotel takes part in the "Good Caps" campaign, a Russian environmental charitable project with a dual goal: to make our world cleaner and help children who need support. The hotel site collects batteries for recycling, as well as waste paper and spent coffee capsules.

DEPO regularly hosts eco-activities, such as "Give a battery - get an apple!" In this way, Europe’s largest gastronomic quarter, together with the Da!Dobro fund, draws the attention of Muscovites to the responsible use of waste which is hazardous to the environment.

Velozavodsky Market organises educational work with visitors all year round about the feasibility of separate waste collection. Every autumn, the holding's facilities join in World Environmental Week’s "We Clean the World (Let’s Clean up the Planet’s Rubbish)", which is used to clean up and green the area, along with other activities and volunteering opportunities which visitors are encouraged to get involved in.

Every year, Kievskaya Ploshchad takes part in the Earth Hour campaign, turning off the lights on its buildings, including the Ukraina and Radisson Slavyanskaya hotels, the Evropeiskiy shopping and entertainment centre, Grand furniture retail complex in Khimki, Grand YUG on Prazhskaya, the "book-house" at 21 Arbat, etc.

The culture of respecting the environment is also evident in the choice of materials used in the construction and finishing of its buildings. For example, when creating the interior of the Schelkovskiy shopping and entertainment centre in the eponymous multifunctional complex, natural granite was used for the floor along with LED lamp pendants decorated with a special stabilised moss known as "yagel" (reindeer moss).
